YARDSALE

SAN FRANCISCO

Yardsale’s debut flagship store brings an energetic presence to Cole Valley — one of San Francisco’s most beloved neighborhoods, home to numerous small businesses with unique character, and the birthplace of the company.

As an innovative luxury recreation brand, Yardsale is redefining ski and winter apparel while offering high-quality equipment for all seasons. Their Cole Valley location is designed as a third space for San Francisco’s active outdoor community. Customers can meet before a hike in Marin, find a roommate for a ski lease, or relax after a run through Golden Gate Park.

Studio BBA worked with Yardsale early in the process to craft a store where the physical environment directly reflects their brand identity. Navigating a tight budget, the focus was on Yardsale’s biggest priorities: creating an adaptive storefront and a welcoming environment. By integrating their coffee bar, Double Black, the goal was to create a spot where customers can stay a while and experience a setting that feels almost entirely like a cafe, aligning with Yardsale’s philosophy that people should be inspired by goods rather than pressured to buy them.

Yardsale covered all angles to avoid sacrificing key concepts or values. The store draws from the character of the existing building, showcasing original brick and lofty skylights complemented by feature tile and wood details that provide a tactile, handmade quality. Earth tones throughout keep the shop feeling grounded and familiar, creating a warm backdrop for clever, stylish gear.

Ultimately, Studio BBA provided a gentle push in the right direction to support Yardsale’s goals and bring their dream to life. This location is an anticipated destination worth returning to, whether to see their latest outdoor innovations or stop by on a morning stroll.
